The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has urged the public to disregard reports in some media platforms claiming he had resigned his appointment.
Adelabu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Bolaji Tunji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Tuesday that the report was fake and misleading.
He urged practitioners in the fourth estate of the realm to uphold professionalism by fact-checking the source of information before spreading such a story.
The report quoted the minister as saying his decision to resign his appointment as the power minister was to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State come 2027.
President Bola Tinubu had directed all political appointees in his administration, who intend to contest elective offices in the 2027 general elections, to resign their appointments on or before March 31.
The directive was pursuant to provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.
NAN recalls that the directive was contained in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume.
Accordingly, all affected officials are required to submit their formal resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation not later than March 31.
The president emphasised that the measure was necessary to ensure full compliance with electoral laws, uphold transparency in the political process, and promote a level playing field for all aspirants.
He urged all concerned officials to take note of the directive and ensure strict compliance, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting credible electoral processes in Nigeria. (
