Sen. Ahmed Wadada (APC-Nasarawa West) has extended his felicitations to the Muslim Ummah and Christian faithful on the commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fast and Lenten season.
Wadada’s felicitations were contained in a statement signed by Mr Sam Israel, his Senior Special Assistant on Media, issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi on Thursday.
According to him, the Senator described the 2026 simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent as a profound spiritual moment, one that carried deep religious, moral, and national significance.
He said both Ramadan and Lent symbolised sacred seasons of sacrifice, self-denial, repentance, charity, and renewed devotion to God.
Wadada said, “They both emphasise that these solemn periods call believers to deeper reflection, heightened compassion, and unwavering commitment to righteous living.”
Israel quoted the senator as saying that fasting, as taught in the Holy Books, was not merely abstinence from food and drink, but a spiritual discipline that closes the doors to sinfulness and opens wide the windows of righteousness.
“It is a divine opportunity for purification of the heart, renewal of faith, and strengthening of moral character,” he stated .
Wadada stressed that the virtues cultivated during these holy seasons—charity, humility, patience, forgiveness, and brotherhood—must not be confined to a few weeks of observance but should become a lasting way of life for every believer and every citizen.
Wadada particularly highlighted the extraordinary significance of Muslims and Christians beginning their fasting seasons on the same date.
According to him, it is an occurrence that has not happened in over three decades, describing this rare convergence as a powerful reminder of God’s boundless grace and mercy, far beyond human comprehension.
“This alignment is a divine call to unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
“It is a sacred opportunity for Nigerians of all faiths to stand together in prayer, reflection, and commitment to the greater good of our nation,” he said.
The lawmaker charged well-to-do individuals and corporate bodies to extend hands of generosity to the less-privileged, ensuring that no family was left behind during this spiritually significant period.
He further called on the citizens to intensify prayers for leaders at all levels and for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria.
Wadada said, “National transformation begins with spiritual renewal, and these sacred seasons present a timely opportunity to seek divine guidance for the country’s progress.
He, then, reiterated his solidarity with both Muslim and Christian communities and assured them of his continued dedication to policies and initiatives that promote inclusive development, social harmony, and shared prosperity across Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.
“As we fast and pray, may our sacrifices usher in peace in our homes, progress in our communities, and renewed hope for our nation.
“May this rare and blessed convergence of Ramadan and Lent mark the beginning of greater unity and unprecedented national rebirth,” Wadada concluded.
