A businesswoman, Ibe Lydia, on Monday told a Customary Court in Garki, Abuja, how her husband allegedly abandoned her during the complicated labour she experienced.
She asked the court to grant her request for divorce on the grounds that her husband, Ugonna, was generally neglecting his duty and has abandoned her.
The petitioner, made the allegations in a divorce petition she filed against her husband in court.
“Ever since our marriage, I have been tolerating my husband’s lack of care and concern towards me and our daughter, in the interest of peace.
She told the court that her marriage with the respondent was not getting any better.
“I tried to cover up my situation for years now, but it is not yielding any positive fruit,” she said.
She also told the court that her husband was very caring before their marriage but changed shortly after the marriage.
She said that her husband suddenly stopped caring for her wellbeing, an action he later extended to their daughter.
She also told the court that it was difficult for her to conceive at the early stage of their marriage, but that she eventually conceived encountering complications.
“During my pregnancy, I had some complications, including pregnancy-induced high blood pressure, due to the complication of the pregnancy,
“I was delivered of my baby less than the normal nine months, through cesarean section, to save my life and that of our baby.
“Throughout my ordeal at this period, my husband did not commit a penny, it was my family that catered for me and our baby.”
The petitioner said that she kept enduring all these, for the sake of peace but she cannot continue.
The respondent, Ugonna, who is a businessman denied the allegations
The presiding judge, Festus Enomhonse, however adjourned the matter until Feb. 24, for hearing.
