The unprecedented defection that some analysts have branded ‘Tinubugale’ has been up one gear as Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party.

By the action, he seems to be on his way to the All Progressives Congress where President Bola Tinubu is consolidating towards the 2027 election.

Yusuf has not only severed chord with his mentor Rabiu Kwakwanso, he is also leaving alongside 21 members of the State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives and 44 local government chairmen in the state.

He announced his decision in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Diso-Chiranchi Ward of the NNPP in Gwale Local Government Area, with the resignation taking effect from January 25, 2026.
