The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members and staff to take concrete action in 2026 by rededicating themselves to national service, unity and tangible contributions to national development.
The Director-General gave the charge in his New Year message made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu on Thursday in Abuja.
Nafiu in the message commended corps members and staff across the country for their patriotism, dedication and resilience in 2025, which he said contributed to the successes recorded by the scheme.
As the new year begins, he called on all personnel to move beyond intentions to deliberate action, urging them to actively support ministries, departments and agencies where they were deployed.
He also emphasised the need for corps members and staff to serve as visible examples of unity, progress and national rebirth, particularly at a time when the country was facing multiple challenges.
“The old year has passed, and a new one has begun.
“As we start this year, I urge everyone to take concrete action: serve our country and humanity by actively supporting ministries, departments, and agencies, promote national unity and rebirth, and serve as visible examples of unity and progress,” he said.
The NYSC boss reaffirmed the management’s commitment to strengthening national unity through improved service delivery and the expansion of corps empowerment initiatives.
According to him, special attention is being given to the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as a means of equipping corps members with relevant skills for self-reliance and national development.
He challenged corps members and staff to embrace the tasks ahead with renewed dedication and professionalism, while seizing every opportunity to make a positive impact in their places of assignment.
“Let us build on our successes and make 2026 a rewarding year for the NYSC scheme and Nigeria. Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve,” he said.
