The Police in Osun have arrested four persons, including an Imam, over the alleged death of a yet to be identified man, on Friday in Osogbo.
DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Public Relations Officer, Osun Command, confirmed the arrests to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Saturday.
Ojelabi said the police got reports that a man was beaten around a mosque in Osogbo on Friday and and quickly dispatched officers to the scene.
He said that when the police got to the scene, they found the man unconscious, with bruises all over his body indicating that he was beaten.
“The officers quickly took the victim to the nearest hospital, which is Jaleyemi Hospital, Osogbo.
“It was at the hospital that they confirmed the victim dead.
“Thereafter, the police returned to the scene and arrested four persons, including the Imam of the Ogo-Oluwa mosque, where the victim was discovered.
“Investigation is, however, ongoing to really unravel what really happened,” Ojelabi said.
Investigation by NAN indicated that the unidentified man went to the Ogo-Oluwa Mosque for early morning prayers, but reportedly launched an attack on the Imam mid-service.
It was also learnt that congregants prevented him from injuring the Imam, overpowered him and beat him up, which resulted in him becoming unconscious
