A Chief Magistrates’ Court at Mapo, Ibadan, has remanded a salesman, Samson Ajibola, 39, in a custodial centre for allegedly refusing to remit N608,800,000, as cost of goods sold.
Ajibola, however, on Thursday, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing levelled against him.
The Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Olori-Oke, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, said the magistrate, must be the defendant’s blood relatives.
Thereafter, Olori-Oke adjourned the suit until Feb. 26 for hearing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Oluseye Akinola, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the crime on Dec. 29, at Orita-Challenge area, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Akinola added that the complainant, Mr Daniel Okoli, had delivered goods worth N608,800,000 to Ajibola to sell, but the latter neither remitted the money nor returned the goods.
Rather, he stated that Ajibola went into giving unfounded excuses.
According to him, the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Law of Oyo State, 2000.
