President Bola Tinubu has celebrated Nigerian music giants like Burna Boy, Rema and Shallipopi as they excel at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
The President described their success as proof of Nigeria’s growing global creative influence.
The President said this in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday.
He said their victories reflect the strength, creativity and resilience of Nigerian youths and the country’s expanding footprint in global music.
Nigerian artistes recorded strong performances at the 9th AFRIMA, held from Jan. 7 to Jan. 11 in Lagos, as the official host city designated by the African Union Commission in April 2025.
Rema won Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African RnB and Soul.
Burna Boy clinched Album of the Year, while Shallipopi won Song of the Year and Best African Collaboration with Burna Boy.
Phyno emerged Best African Hip-Hop, Yemi Alade (Best Soundtrack), while Qing Madi won Most Promising Artiste.
Chella received African Fans’ Favourite, while Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye earned the AFRIMA Legendary Award.
Tinubu said the achievements reflect years of hard work, talent and consistency by Nigerian artistes.
He noted that Nigerian music has become a strong voice for the country across Africa and beyond.
“I warmly congratulate our outstanding Nigerian artistes for their remarkable achievements at AFRIMA.
“Your success projects our culture and strengthens Nigeria’s creative identity globally,” he said.
The President urged the artistes to continue inspiring unity and pride while contributing to the growth of the creative economy.
Tinubu also congratulated Lagos State for successfully hosting the awards.
He commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for delivering a world-class event in a safe and vibrant environment.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and creative sector development.
He said music and other creative industries have strong potential to create jobs, boost tourism and grow the economy.
AFRIMA was founded in 2014 by its International Committee in partnership with the African Union Commission.
The 9th edition attracted over 1,200 artistes, delegates and industry stakeholders from at least 48 African countries.
