A 46-year-old photographer, Ayoola Adewale Ayoola, on Friday, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly receiving stolen camera lenses valued N130,000.
Ayoola of Karu Village, Abuja, is facing a charge of receiving stolen property, but she pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Oguejiofor Jideofor, of Kubwa, Abuja, reported a case of theft against one Nicholas Peter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on Jan. 6.
Nwachukwu said that Peter allegedly made away with the complainant’s camera lenses – Ds50 -worth N130,000
When arrested and questioned by the police, Peter confessed to have sold the stolen lens to the defendant.
Nwachukwu told the court that Peter confessional statements at the police station led to the arrest of the defendant.
The prosecutor alleged that during police investigation one of the camera lenses was recovered from the defendant.
She told the court that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of her actions.
Nwachukwu said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo admitted the defendant to N500,000 bail, with one surety in like sum.
Jobbo said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the matter until March 9 for hearing
