Labour Party’s stalwart, Peter Obi, has raised a question over ambulance services in Nigeria as he reacts to the crash of boxing champion Anthony Joshua’s car crash.
Two people – Joshua’s friends – died in the accident that occurred on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Matchroom Boxing, confirmed in a statement that the deceased were Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, both of whom worked closely with the boxer for several years.
“With profound sadness, it has been confirmed that two close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele have tragically passed away,” Matchroom Boxing said.
According to Obi, ambulance was not readily available.
He wrote in a Facebook post:
It is with deep concern that I received the news of the road accident involving former heavyweight boxing champion, Mr. Anthony Joshua, in Makun, Ogun State.
It is particularly worrisome that this incident occurred while he was in Nigeria. Many of us are also compelled to reflect on reports that no ambulance was readily available to convey him to the hospital.
May God Almighty grant him a speedy recovery, and I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the two lives lost. May God grant them comfort and grant the departed eternal rest.
