The National Universities Commission (NUC) visitation panel on Tuesday visited the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, to assess courses for accreditation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Kaduna State College of Education offers degree programmes in affiliation to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The Provost of the college, Dr Aku Ambi, received the accreditation team led by Prof. Oyaziwo Aluede at the school campus in Gidan Waya.
Ambi explained that the institution had done everything humanly possible in terms of human resources and documentation to host the process.
“The management did intensify efforts for the process to take place to enable the school to increase degree programmes in the next session,” he stated
The provost expressed optimism that the college would be given a pass mark at the end of the exercise.
He disclosed that the State House of Assembly had already passed the bill for the institution to embark on dual mode of awarding degrees and NCE and is only awaiting assent by the governor.
In her remarks, Dr Jummai Tabat, Deputy Provost Adminstration and Chairman of the college’s NUC Accreditation Planning Committee, said nine Degree programmes would be assessed for accreditation.
Tabat pledged the cooperation of the school management with the accreditation team to ensure smooth execution of the exercise.
Also speaking, Prof. Aluede said that the accreditation of degree programmes was a key mandate of the NUC and not a witch-hunt.
“It is customary on the part of the NUC to evaluate programmes from time to time, to know whether the programmes meet global best practices.
“That’s what we have come here to do; to assist NUC collect relevant data that will enable NUC make informed decisions about the programmes the institution runs.
“We are here not for a witch-hunt, but to carry out a thorough work, and the final decision will be made by NUC Abuja,”he added
According to him, the panel will be fair in it’s assessment as well as play according to the rules of the game.
