No fewer than 100 widows in Obubra and Etung local government areas of Cross River, were on Sunday entertained by wife of the state Governor, Bishop Eyoawan Otu.
The humanitarian gesture was done under her foundation, Humanities Without Borders initiative, in collaboration with the Abon Abang Foundation.
The governor’s wife, who was represented by her special adviser on NGOs, Dr Inyang Asibong, reiterated her commitment to the promotion of dignity and care for vulnerable groups in the state.
She said that the impact of care for vulnerable groups, could be life-changing.
“It helps them access basic needs, feel included, and live with dignity.
“Widows often face unique challenges like economic instability, social isolation, and emotional distress.
“Providing care and support can make a huge difference,” she said.
Also speaking, Executive Director of the Abon Abang Foundation, Dr George Abang, said that the initiative was designed to enable beneficiaries enjoy the season in an atmosphere of joy, warmth, and shared sweetness.
Abang promised to continue to look into the plights of the widows and the vulnerable persons in the state.
“They need our support and care, especially in this Yuletide, which preaches love and care for one another, ” Ababg said.
Meanwhile, reacting to the gesture, some of the beneficiaries who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) expressed appreciation.
A beneficiary, Mrs Jessica Agbor, said: “I am very happy that we are still remembered, especially at seasons like this when we don’t have anybody to fend for us.
“It is not easy to stay without a husband; it is like the whole community has left you behind, ” she said.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Mary Ewang, said that the gesture is a source of relief for widows.
“These gestures mean that we are really being integrated into the scheme of things.
“God bless the governor’s wife and the Abang Foundation for remembering us,” she said.
