Police detain 14 in Jigawa over suspected drug deal

The Jigawa Police Command in Jigawa on Tuesday, said it has detained 14 suspected drug dealers who were apprehended in five Local Government Areas of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan, made this known in a statement to newsmen in Dutse.

According to him, over 8,000 assorted illicit drugs and cash worth over N200, 000 were recovered as exhibits during the arrest of the suspects.

“In a sustained effort to rid Jigawa state of illicit drugs and related criminal activities, operatives of the police command have successfully arrested several notorious drug dealers across Dutse, Guri, Babura, Kanya Babba, Bulangu, and Yankwashi Divisions.

“The coordinated operations carried out following credible intelligence, led to the recovery of a total of 8,271 pieces of assorted illicit drugs.

“They include: Exol, D5, Tramadol, Diazepam, rubber solution, “suck and die,” and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

“In addition, the operatives recovered a cash sum of N235,225 believed to be proceeds of illicit drug sales, and has been registered as a monetary exhibit,” he said.

Lawan added that the suspects are assisting investigators with useful information that will aid in uncovering their supply chain and other accomplices.

He said that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Dahiru Muhammad commended the operatives for their professionalism and commitment to the fight against illicit drugs.

According to him, the commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s resolve to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations in order to ensure a drug-free Jigawa state.

Lawan, urged members of the public to support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities in their communities.

He hinted that the suspects will be charged to court upon coinclusion of investigations.
