The police on Thursday, charged a 27-year-old man, Garuba Danladi, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over alleged possession of a locally made pistol.

Danladi, whose address was not provided, was charged with being in unlawful possession of the pistol.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 9, at about 11.00 a.m. at the Orile-igbon area of Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant was apprehended for being in possession of the pistol with one cartridge.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of his possession of the pistol and its purpose.

Tellang alleged that the defendant’s aim was to commit felony with the firearm.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 417(d) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Nov. 20, for hearing
