Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has approved the appointment of Prof. Babatunde Omojola as the new Vice-Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).
This is contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode and made available to newsmen on Monday in Ado-EKiti.
Omojola, a Professor of Animal Science, with specialisation in Animal Products and Processing/ Food Safety, is until the appointment, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
Oyebanji said that Omojola’s appointment is with immediate effect.
According to him, he takes over from Prof. Olufemi Adeoluwa, whose tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the university ends on Jan. 6, 2026.
Prof. Babatunde Omojola was born in Usi-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Aug. 14, 1962.
He attended his secondary school education at Notre Dame College, Usi-Ekiti between 1976 and 1980.
He later proceeded to the University of Ibadan in 1984 where he graduated with a Second Class (Upper division) in Animal Science in 1988.
Omojola bagged a Master of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Ibadan in 1991 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science from the same University in 1997.
He started his lecturing career as Lecturer II at the University of Ibadan in 1997, and rose through the ranks to the position of a Professor in 2011.
He served as a Visiting Professor at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana between 2013 and 2019 and as an External Examiner at the University of Calabar between 2012 and 2016 and Osun State University, Osogbo between 2015 and 2018.
The new VC had also served as Head, Animal Products and Processing Unit, Animal Science Department, University of Ibadan (2000-2023) and Director, UI Teaching and Research Farm (2016-2018).
He was a Member, University of Ibadan Senate (2011-2025) and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan, (2023- 2025) and served as Chairman, Committee of Dean, Heads of Departments and Directors.
Gov. Oyebanji, who is the Visitor to the University, urged the new VC to bring his wealth of experience as an academic and a seasoned administrator to bear to further reposition the university as a world-class institution of learning
He wished him a successful tenure.
The governor thanked the outgoing BOUESTI Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adeoluwa, for his meritorious service to the university and wished him success in his future endeavours.
