The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has advised officers of the FRSC Rivers Command to work collectively in addressing the pressing issue of road traffic congestion in Rivers State.Mohammed gave the advice during a National Town Hall Meeting and the EMBER Months Road Safety Campaign Flag-Off held in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The Corps Marshal commended the officers for their dedication, commitment, and loyalty to the agency and the nation.
He also expressed appreciation to the wives of the officers for their support, which, he noted, had enabled their husbands to perform their duties effectively in service to the nation.
Mohammed observed that in spite of the efforts of the agency, road traffic crashes and related trauma continued to pose a significant challenge in Nigeria, with far-reaching impacts on individuals and the economy.
He cautioned officers against engaging in extortion, lateness to work, and other forms of misconduct, while calling for multi-sectoral collaboration to tackle the problem of road traffic incidents.
The Corps Marshal further emphasised that Nigeria belonged to everyone, stressing the need for collective effort to make the country better and to reduce carnage on the roads.
Henry Benemesia, Assistant Corps Marshal and Zonal Commanding Officer, FRSC Port Harcourt Headquarters, commended the Corps Marshal for uplifting the image of the agency during his tenure.
Benemesia noted that a total of 1,400 marshals had been converted to officers under Mohammed’s leadership.
He lauded the Corps Marshal for his open-mindedness, welfare policies, and the discipline he had instilled among officers in the service.
He also assured that the officers remained committed to improving their performance and to positioning the FRSC as the best agency in the country, particularly in the fight against corruption
