A Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has ordered that a 20-year-old vulcanizer, Victor Abba who pleaded guilty to stealing tubers of yam worth 570, 000 should be remanded in a correctional centre.
The Presiding Judge, Michael Bawa, adjourned the matter until Nov.26 for sentencing following the defendant’s plea for leniency.
Abba was charged by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) with criminal trespass and theft.
Earlier, NSCDC prosecutor, Mr Marcus Audu told the court that the matter was reported at the corp’s office in Kafanchan, Kaduna state by Mr Zachariah Tachio on Oct.20.
Audu said that the defendant was in the habit of entering the complainant’s yam farm at Zipak, a community in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna to steal.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 313 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law
