The Presidency of Dr Goodluck Ebelo Jonathan has echoed as one of his minsters, Dr Kabiru Turaki (SAN), from Kebbi State, has emerged as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This is one of the outcomes of the 2025 Elective National Convention of the party, held in Ibadan on Saturday.
Jonathan has not asserted much influence on national politics since he left office in 2015.
Turaki’s victory, though coming controversially due to the messy in-fighting in the party, may thus partly reawaken his essence.
Turaki scored a total of 1,516 votes to defeat his closest rival Garuba Lado who scored 41 votes.
Sen. Ben Obi, Secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee announced the result after the counting of the votes.
Obi said that 3,141 delegates came to the convention while 2,745 accredited and 275 are voided votes.
He further said that Solarin Adekunle emerged as the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the party.
Obi said that 17 other positions were contested unopposed.
