An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Gombe State, Mr Abdullahi Jalo, says no coalition can stop President Bola Tinubu from being re-elected in 2027.
Jalo, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Thursday, described the opposition coalition as group of self-serving politicians lacking ideology to lead the country.
According to him, the coalition, under African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other political platform, lacks the capacity to unseat Tinubu in 2027.
He said that the general elections would be a walkover for the APC-led government in view of the ‘sterling performance’ of the president through transformation of all sectors of the country.
Jalo noted that the reforms of the Tinubu-led administration had salvaged Nigeria’s economy from sinking and collapsing, stressing that but for those reforms, the country would have been in bad shape.
“Coalition or no coalition, Tinubu’s re-election is guaranteed and his victory at the polls will be much easier than that of 2023.
“Who are those forming coalition? What are their antecedents and what record do they have? Tinubu won in 2023 based on his performance when he was governor of Lagos State.
“Approaching election in 2027, Nigerians now know Tinubu’s performance as president, and based on what he has done, he will win with greater margin than what he got at the polls in 2023,” he said.
Jalo, a former deputy national publicity secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that no candidate in the opposition could unseat Tinubu, hence “any talk about coalition is just a waste of time.”
He stated that those studying the political happenings in the country knew that Tinubu would be re-elected in 2027, hence the massive defection into the party (APC).
“And with more governors coming to fortify the structure of APC in their respective states, then you know that APC is sure of victory.
“You can see what is happening; governors and key political figures are joining APC with their structures, councillors, chairmen, commissioners and even market women.
“This means that people have started appreciating what President Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima are doing for the country,” he said.
The APC chieftain, however, urged stakeholders to mobilise support for APC and showcase the “many good things” of Tinubu to those at the grassroots.
He said that Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and other chieftains were already working for Tinubu’s re-election in the state.
“Tinubu has done us well in Gombe State, especially in the health sector, with Federal Medical Centre, Orthopaedic Hospital, Snakebite Treatment and Research Centre and other health facilities.
“Tinubu has been good to us in Gombe and we are waiting for 2027 to return the favours,” he said.
Jalo called on APC supporters to embrace the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) to obtain their permanent voter card, ahead of the 2027 general elections
