The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, says the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has executed 574 infrastructure projects across formations in the last two years to enhance operational efficiency, personnel welfare, and institutional capacity.
Abubakar disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the NAF Headquarters Annex Complex in Gudu.
He described the project as a strategic response to the Service’s rapid expansion and evolving national security roles.
Abubakar said that 412 out of the 574 projects had been completed as at August while 162 were still ongoing.
This, according to him, reflects the service’s determination to maintain a motivated, efficient, and operationally ready force.
“This commissioning is part of our broader vision to build a highly motivated and agile Air Force through continuous infrastructural renewal,” he said.
The Air Chief explained that the new four-storey annex, initially conceived as a hotel, was acquired and remodeled by NAF engineers within a year, saving the government huge resources and demonstrating the ingenuity of its technical personnel.
“What once stood as an abandoned structure has been transformed into a modern, functional workspace that will enhance command, coordination, and service delivery,” he added.
Abubakar said the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which places security at the centre of national development.
He reaffirmed the NAF’s resolve to remain resilient, innovative, and accountable in fulfilling its constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s airspace and territorial integrity.
Earlier, the Chief of Administration, NAF, AVM Idi Sani, said the new complex was designed to decongest the main headquarters and enhance administrative efficiency, synergy, and productivity.
Sani described the edifice as more than just a structure, but “a symbol of the Nigerian Air Force’s enduring commitment to excellence and service to the nation”.
The ceremony was performed by the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, members of the National Assembly, and other dignitaries.
