A 46-year-old man, Gabriel Peter, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for alleged attempted robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
Peter, whose address was not provided, was arraigned for a three-count charge of conspiracy, attempted robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offences on Aug. 15, at about 8:19 a.m. at No. 1 Awe Street, Ogba, Lagos.
She alleged that the defendant conspired with others to rob one Osita Nwata of a smart phone valued ₦610,000, a laptop worth ₦900,000 and other items all totaling ₦1.51 million.
Ikhayere further alleged that the defendant was arrested while in possession of a locally made pistol and two live cartridges without lawful authority.
The offences, the prosecutor said, contravene Sections 298(1) and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2025 and section 27(1)(i)(ii)(iii) of the Firearms Act, Cap F.28, Vol. 6, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2010.
Magistrate L. A. Owolabi ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
He adjourned the case until Nov. 27, for further hearing.
