The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has tasked its newly promoted officers to improve performance in ensuring safety on Nigerian roads.
SC Innocent Etuk, the Sector Commander of the FRSC, Cross River Command, remarked on Friday during the decoration of the newly promoted officers in the state command.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that out of the 29 officers promoted, two Superintendent Route Commanders were elevated to the rank of Chief Route Commander. In contrast, another two Deputy Route Commanders were promoted to Route Commander. One officer was promoted from Assistant Route Commander to Deputy Route Commander, and the remaining 24 promotions were for officers in the lower cadre of the corps.
Etuk told NAN that it was important for the newly promoted officers to take responsibility by ensuring that the Corps had better positive outcomes which would assist in delivering on its mandate.
“Today, we just decorated our newly promoted officers, which is part of the welfare package of the Corps Marshal to encourage staff.
“It is, however, necessary to state that the promotion is to engender high-level productivity, commitment, diligence and resilience, to ensure that the Corp’s mandate is achieved,” he said.
Speaking in behalf of his colleagues, Mr Otobong Jimmy, one of the promoted officers, thanked the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and other superior officers, both at the state and zonal level, for their support and encouragement.
Jimmy noted that the promotion meant a lot to them, and promised that they would not disappoint the FRSC on the confidence reposed in them.
“The FRSC is a very disciplined organisation and this discipline trickles down to all the staff in the Corps; so, for other officers who have not been promoted, keep working hard, your time will come.
Similarly, in a goodwill message, Lt. John Oriaghan of the Nigerian Navy, said the military and paramilitary officers of Nigeria were the backbone of the nation, even when they did not get the necessary accolades.
Oriaghan, however, added that lack of accolades was not an excuse when it was time to ensure the safety of the nation.
He encouraged the newly promoted officers to be shining examples on Nigerian roads while ensuring safety and reducing crashes.
Speaking also, Mr Effiong Umo, a guest, wished the newly promoted officers well, while urging them to put more efforts in their work to keep the society orderly.
