Yoruba Nation leader, Sunday Igboho, has clarified his mission to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in connection with a verse he chanted there.
It was not an incantation but an oriki that touches on the crown-related history of Oyo.
In a video in which he reacts to Alaafin of Oyo Oba Akeem Owoade’s apparent disapproval of the evocation that touches on Oyo’s old migrations and the genesis of its crown, Igboho noted it was not meant to spite Oyo.
According to him, he was only praising himself with the song because he is also an Oyo man.
“Kabiyesi, I never meant to offend you with the song. As I arrived at the Ooni’s palace, the drummers had started chanting my oriki with their drums. This sparked me into picking it up and praising myself. Kabiyesi, you would recall that I chanted the same oriki when I visited you, although you preferred the visit to be behind the camera. So, I hold you in high esteem, Kabiyesi.”
Igboho’s visit to the Ooni came amid the superiority feud between the monarch and the Alaafin.
His own mission, as he explained in Owo and Ile-Ife, is however about his issue with the Federal Government which is still holding on to his passport while his account remains frozen.
