The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned two men, Saheed Olayemi, 32, and Ibrahim Magaji, 22, before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N1.35 million. The defendants were arraigned on Monday on a four-count charge.
The charges, as read out by the prosecutor, Insp. Adegeshin Famuyiwa, include conspiracy, felony to wit stealing, malicious damage, and receiving stolen property. The prosecution told the court that the offenses were committed on July 22 in the Ire Akindina area of Igbogbo, Ikorodu.
Both Olayemi and Magaji entered a plea of not guilty to all the charges. The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.
Famuyiwa said that the defendants, with others now at large, dishonestly stole one black Zongshen motorcycle with Reg. No SMK 112 QN, and willfully destroyed its number plate.
She alleged that on the same day, Magaji received the stolen properties valued at N1.35m belonging to one Mr Habeeb Ismaila.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 411, 287, 350, and 328 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mr. A.O. Ogbe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 21 for mention.
