The Ogun chapter of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has presented awards of excellence to the Commissioner of Police (CP), CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and eight other officers in the state.
The National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, said the award was to show appreciation for the police command and its personnel for their efforts in serving the community.
He declared the Ogun chapter the best nationwide, citing its pioneering efforts in community policing. Olaniyan said that community policing started in Ogun because it has always involved members of the public. He added that the awards were a way to celebrate the officers since the Nigerian Police are not known for publicising their own achievement.
“Ogun PCRC that gave this awards knows what it’s doing because it is part of the success story,” Olaniyan said.
Earlier in his remarks, the state Chairman of PCRC, Mr Samson Popoola, said the award was in appreciation of the professionalism and sacrifices of the police command.
He acknowledged the drastic reduction in violent crimes like kidnapping, ritual killings, cultism and armed robbery in the state in the past few months.
This, he attributed, to the strategic and technologically driven policing by the commissioner of police and his team.
“Today is not just a ceremony; it’s a celebration of excellence, dedication, and gallantry in the service of our dear state and nation.
“These award is a token of our appreciation, but beyond that, it is a symbol of encouragement- a reminder that the society you serve diligently is watching and indeed, grateful,” he said.
In his response, Ogunlowo appreciated the PCRC for recognising the efforts of the police command.
He said that the successes recorded by the command could not have been accomplished without the input of the public, which the PCRC represents.
The CP also thanked the governor for assisting with logistics and other support needed to make the command’s jobs easier.
“When you work and you’re accorded recognition, it makes you feel accomplished and want to do more.
“With supports from the IG, the state governor and the people of the state, we’ll keep doing what we do to keep the state peaceful and safe at all times,” Ogunlowo said.
