The Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) has confirmed the successful training of 1,800 personnel across four states in the North West. the initiative is a strategic effort to enhance intelligence gathering and strengthen forest protection in support of national security operations.
According to Abdullahi Al-Ameen, the commander of the NFSS in Kano State, the personnel were drawn from Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Jigawa states. he made the disclosure on Tuesday during the training, stating that the objective was to improve local intelligence gathering, a crucial component of effective national security.
The comprehensive training program is a testament to the NFSS’s commitment to bolstering regional security and safeguarding the nation’s forest resources.
He said that it focused basically on building intelligence capacity and strengthening collaboration with security agencies.
He said it was also to engage relevant stakeholders to protect forest reserves.
“The training is part of our renewed strategy to secure forest reserves, prevent illegal logging, and curb the activities of bandits and other criminal elements who use forests as hideouts,”he said.
Al-ameen said that the forest guards are working closely with traditional institutions and community leaders to gather actionable intelligence and ensure prompt response to threats.
He called on members of the public to support the initiative by giving out credible information that would aid in protecting the nation’s forest resources.
