Political pundits are likely to describe as dramatic results of the local government election held in Rivers State on Saturday.

In the current Republic, ruling parties are known to sweep polls in every state but the opposition All Progressives Congress has won 20 of the 23 local government areas in Rivers.

The ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, on the other hand, won only three LGAs in the poll conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

This is, however, believed to be due to the peculiar position of the state’s biggest political player at present, Nyesom Wike, who is a PDP member working with the APC government as a minister.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara also lost his Opobo-Nkoro LGA to the main opposition party in the state.

The RSIEC Chairman, Dr Michael Odey, announced the results at the commission’s Headquarters along Aba Road in Port Harcourt on Sunday afternoon.
