A 20-year-old bricklayer, Abdul Mohammed, was arraigned on Friday before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing two Geepee water tanks.
Mohammed, a resident of Life Camp, is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, trespass, and theft, but he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offenses on August 15 at a construction site in Life Camp. She said the complainant, Mr Musa Kabiru, a security guard near the site, reported the matter to the Life Camp Police Station on August 18.
Nwachukwu alleged that the defendant conspired with one Yusuf (surname unknown), of Galadima, Abuja, now at large, to invade the site and cart away two Geepee water tanks, value yet to be ascertained.
She added that the defendant was later arrested and during interrogation, made a confessional statement but failed to give a satisfactory explanation for his actions.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 97, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until Oct. 20 for hearing.
