Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun has pledged his administration’s continued commitment to promoting democratic values and the welfare of residents as the state marks its 34th anniversary.
In a statewide broadcast on Wednesday in Osogbo, Adeleke said that he was proud that his administration was deepening democratic values and promoting the welfare of the people.
“We are building a strong, virile, and resilient democratic governance for delivering sustainable value to our citizens based on good governance,” he said. The anniversary is a reminder of the state’s journey and the ongoing efforts to ensure its progress.
“As we reflect on our state creation experience, we acknowledge the progress we have made and the challenges we still face, from the national to the local level.
“We recognise that democracy is not just a system of government, but a way of life that values the rights and dignity of every citizen,” he said.
Adeleke reflected on the efforts of the founding fathers and matrons, who birthed the state on August 27, 1991, and expressed his aim to have a state where no citizen was left behind.
“A state that shines as a model of unity, innovation, and good governance,” he said.
He, however, stated that the vision and reality of having an enviable state could only be achieved when the government and citizens work hand in hand, with honesty, dedication, and love for the homeland.
“On this 34th anniversary, let us draw inspiration from the struggles of our heroes’ past and renew our commitment to building a state that future generations will be proud to inherit,” he said.
The governor highlighted his administration’s works and achievements, and said a lot had been done in building a stronger economy, improving education and healthcare.
“We are also boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every home,” he said.
He reaffirmed his dedication to transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance, urging every citizen to join in the journey of promoting and moving the state forward.
Adeleke urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs to continue to play their parts in the development of the state.
“Together, we can overcome any obstacle that stands in our way.
“Our strength lies in our unity, our diversity, and our shared vision for a prosperous and peaceful Osun State. Let us reject divisions, embrace unity, and place the interest of the state above all else,” he said.
