A Lagos-based woman has told the police that a pistol found in her bag belongs to her husband.
Operatives of the Police Command in Lagos State have detained her and the husband as well as one other woman for alleged unlawful possession of a pistol.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a post he shared on his X handle @benHundeyin on Tuesday.
He said that the police officers apprehended the suspects in a stop and search operation on Tuesday in Ipaja area of the state.
“Officers of Ipaja Division intercepted two ladies and insisted on searching their bags.
“After a cursory and non-intrusive look at the contents of their bags, a semi-automatic pistol was found in their possession.
“One of the ladies led the police to the owner of the firearm – her husband, ” Hundeyin said.
According to the image maker, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“That is one less illegal firearm in circulation,” the spokesperson said
