The Traditional Ruler of Orile-Alagbado, Oba Adeshoga Williams, has expressed joy over the historic election of Mrs. Oluyemisi Rosiji as the first indigenous female chairperson of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, the monarch described Rosiji’s emergence as a significant milestone for the community, noting it reflects progress and inclusivity in local governance.
Orile-Alagbado is one of the communities within Ojokoro LCDA.
Lagos State, on Saturday, conducted chairmanship and councillorship elections in its 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs.
Rosiji of the All Progressives Congress won the chairmanship election in Ojokoro LCDA with 20,285 votes.
The candidate of Labour Party came second with 1,095 votes while Peoples Democratic Party candidate placed third with 624 votes.
While congratulating Rosiji, the royal father urged her to govern well to leave a lasting legacy.
According to him, the outgoing chairman of the LCDA performed well and it is expected that Rosiji should build on her predecessor’s achievements.
“There is a lot of issues that need to be addressed such as infrastructure development and youth empowerment,” he said.
Williams said that campaign against drug abuse should be intensified to sensitise the youth more to the dangers of the act.
He urged cooperation among all stakeholders to further develop the LCDA.
Earlier in an interview with NAN, Rosiji pledged to fulfil her campaign promises and ensure more dividends of democracy to Ojokoro residents.
She said that her administration would focus on infrastructure development, improved healthcare, and women and youth empowerment, among others.
She also pledged that her administration would be transparent and accountable.
