A 35-year-old man, Rabiu Ibrahim, was on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving stolen iron rods and aluminium sheets worth N12 million.
The defendant, who has no fixed address, is facing a charge of receiving stolen property.
Prosecutor Insp. Olasunkanmi Bamikole told the court that the offence occurred on July 6 in Ado-Ekiti, where Ibrahim allegedly received the items from one Alabi Oluwatobi.
According to him, the stolen items belonged to Mr Remi Oguntuase.
Bamikole said the offence contravened Section 343 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, assuring that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Anoma said the surety must be a level 14 civil servant or a community leader.
She adjourned the case until July 31 for hearing.
