Rivers assembly crisis: Court strikes out LP’s suit against INEC

Police on Friday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Ayorinde Ajayi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly impersonating someone else.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Olasunkanmi Bamikole, the offence was committed on July 9 in Igede-Ekiti. The defendant, who has no fixed address, is facing a single count of impersonation.

He alleged that the defendant, dressed in a military uniform, presented himself as a member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Bamikole said the offence contravened Section 90(b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Aug.19 for hearing.
