Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday inaugurated the newly dualised 5.9-kilometre Akobo Ojuirin–Olorunda Abaa Road in Ibadan, declaring it a reflection of his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Represented by his deputy, Mr Bayo Lawal, Makinde said the road project is a strategic link that will open rural communities, boost trade, ease transportation, and improve the quality of life for residents.
He noted that the continuous transformation of Oyo’s infrastructure underscores the visionary governance and development drive of his administration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the road project was flagged off in 2023, as a continuation of the IdiApe – Basorun – Akobo Ojuirin dual carriage way project, which commenced during Makinde’s first term in office.
The governor said the road would serve as a critical link connecting communities and boosting economic activity in Lagelu local government and beyond.
“This strategic linkage is more than just a road; it is a lifeline that will open up our rural communities, stimulate trade, ease transportation, and uplift the quality of life of our people,” he stated.
Makinde said that the landmark project was executed under the leadership of the chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Mr Kamorudeen Mudashiru.
He commended the leadership of the Lagelu LG for the completion of the project.
NAN also reports that the road was named after Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu in recognition of his contributions to the development of the state.
The road is complemented with solar-powered street lighting, drainage systems, and tarred adjoining access roads to enhance connectivity and safety.
