Ogun State is set to host the Golden 7s Rugby Tournament, reinforcing its growing reputation as a hub for sporting excellence.
The one-day event, scheduled for July 26, will take place at the iconic Recreation Club in the Government Reserve Area (GRA), Ota.
According to the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, which is organizing the tournament alongside grassroots stakeholders, youth and women’s teams will showcase their skills in what promises to be a thrilling contest.
The event brings together raw talent, school pride, and community spirit from across the Southwest region of Nigeria.
Hussain Wuraola, Nigeria Rugby Development Officer and tournament host, expressed delight at hosting the Golden Rugby 7s in Ogun.
She noted that the tournament builds confidence, discipline, and leadership in youth through rugby, beyond just competitive play.
“This event supports community development and nurtures Nigeria’s future rugby stars,” Wuraola said.
She described the Golden 7s as a strategic platform advancing youth participation and rugby development across Southwest Nigeria.
According to her, the tournament unites school and academy talents, playing a vital role in talent discovery and player development.
By offering competition with mentorship, the Golden 7s fosters leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship among young players.
Wuraola added that a standout feature of the tournament is gender inclusion, with both boys and girls competing in various age categories.
This focus supports ongoing efforts to promote female involvement in sport and ensure equal access to development opportunities.

Wuraola said the event will offer thrilling action, new talent, and stronger commitment to development through sport.
The women’s division will feature a fierce clash among Cowrie RFC, AJ Sharks RFC, and Golden Sharks RFC.
In the T1 Schools (Senior Boys) category, New Era School and S.T.C from Lagos will face Iganmode Grammar School and St. Michael African School from Ogun.
Junior Female Teams include Ibudo Academy, Dorcas, Iganmode, Jubril Martin, and Ogun Young Stallion.
Junior Male Teams will feature Wolverine Academy, Ibudo Academy, Golden Sharks, Dorcas Cardoso, Catholic St. Michael African School, and Jubril Martin.
