A 45-year-old farmer, Idowu Akinderin, was arraigned on Thursday before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly assaulting his neighbour, Mrs Derin Akinsiku.
Akinderin, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault and felony.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 5, around 09:00 a.m. at Igodan Lisa in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Magisterial District.
Orogbemi said the problem started with an undisclosed argument which broke out and led to fracas between the two.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted Akinsiku with a fist blow which caused varying degrees of injuries to the complainant.
He said the offences contravene Sections 351 and 516, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olanrewaju Adelegan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.
He added that the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction and show evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.
The case was adjourned until July 15, for further hearing.
