The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Odo, has clarified that the relocation of yam sellers from Ogbede Market is not a witch-hunt.
Odo made the statement on Wednesday in response to protests by traders who accused the council of forceful relocation that allegedly caused financial losses and damage to goods.
He explained that the decision to relocate was reached in agreement with the traders and not unilaterally imposed by the council.
The council chairman denied the allegations by the traders, describing it as malicious and calculated attempt to tarnish his image.
He explained that the relocation was aimed at developing the market to make it more conducive for commercial activities and revenue generation by the council.
Odo said his administration was committed to developing markets in the area as well as making them more viable for investors
