A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced 20-year-old Olanrewaju Timilehin to four months of community service for stealing five 25-litre kegs of palm oil valued at N300,000.
Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon convicted Timilehin after he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge and the facts of the case were presented.
He was sentenced to two months of community service for each count, to be served consecutively within the court’s premises.
She noted that the convict was a first-time offender and that the stolen kegs of palm oil had been recovered.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the convict committed the offence on July 16 at about 10.30 a.m at Basiri Better Life Area of Ado-Ekiti.
According to him, the convict and another person still at large entered the house of one Mrs Adeoye Modupe, and stole five 25-litres kegs of palm oil.
Adeniyi said the convict also stole another 25 litres of prayer water.
He stated that the total value of the stolen items was N300,000, all belonging to Modupe.
The prosecutor added that the convict confessed to the crime and the police recovered the stolen palm oil.
He said the offences contravened Sections 303 and 301 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.
