The Ebonyi State Police Command says it arrested 939 suspects linked to various crimes across the state between January and June 2025.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abakaliki.
Ukandu said the arrests were made during different operations carried out across all 13 local government areas in the state. He revealed that 887 of the suspects were males between the ages of 17 and 60.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended for offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, rape, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms, among others.
He added that several of the cases are already being prosecuted in court, while others are still under investigation.
Ukandu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across Ebonyi, and urged residents to continue cooperating with the police by reporting suspicious activities.
“We have 52 females out of the total arrest and no minors within the period under review.
“Their offences include minor and major crimes such as: Murder, suicide, rape, grievous harm, child stealing, cultism, robbery and house breaking.
“Others are: kidnapping, burglary, false pretence, stealing, arson, unlawful possession of firearms, forgery, breach of public peace as well trafficking on illicit drugs,” the PPRO explained.
He underscored the Command’s commitment to tackling crimes and improving public safety over the past six months in the state.
On Challenges, Ukandu noted that there were obstacles in crime fighting, noting that the personnel were able to overcome them.
“The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya appreciates the synergy between sister security agencies that has helped in sustaining the existing peace in Ebonyi state.
“We also thank the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru on his supports to the command in crime fighting,” the PPRO said.
