The Delta State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl-Child Development has launched an in-house capacity building workshop to enhance staff skills in memo writing.
Speaking at the opening of the training, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Wilson Chukwuka, said the initiative was designed to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of the ministry’s workforce.
Chukwuka encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training to improve their communication skills and ensure better service delivery.
He emphasised the significance of the training in improving service delivery and aligning with the State government’s ‘MORE Agenda’ mantra.
Chukwuka disclosed that the in-house training aligned with the vision of the State Head of Service (HoS), Dr Mininim Oseji which is also key in the implementation of the State government’s ‘MORE Agenda’ mantra.
”This in-house training is crucial for our personal development.
”It is also key in our quest for personal development. Recently the Head of Service started stressing on the need for in-house training across all MDAs.
“This is the first, and certainly not going to be the last, as we are going to engage in a series of other training sessions, ” he said.
Chukwuka noted that the training was crucial for personal development and would help staff apply lessons learned to their daily office routine.
The permanent secretary announced plans for future training sessions, including one on voucher retirement for the accounts department.
He tasked the participants to concentrate fully so that they could apply the lessons learned to their daily office routine.
The Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Lucky Nkemachor, highlighted the evolution of memo writing in the State civil service, from turgid writing to clear and concise communication in everyday language.
The training aims to equip staff with the necessary skills to improve their performance and contribute to the effective implementation of the State government’s policies and programmes.
The workshop brought together key management staff and the entire members of staff of the ministry, demonstrating the commitment to capacity building and staff development.
The Resource Person, Mr Lucky Nkemachor, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, highlighted the evolution of memo writing in the State civil service.
”In the past, memo writing was often turgid.
”However, the concept of memo writing is to communicate and elicit understanding, and nowadays, it’s written in everyday language, ” he said.
