A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State has ordered the remand of a 39-year-old man, Victor Kiere, for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni gave the order on Wednesday after Kiere pleaded not guilty to the charge. He directed that the defendant be remanded at the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre pending further legal advice.

The magistrate also ordered that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for review and further action.

Layeni adjourned the case until Aug.21 for ruling on the bail application and for DPP legal advice.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in April at 6.00.p.m, at Asheri Community Phase 2, Owode-Apa, Badagry, Lagos.

Ekpo said that the defendant did have sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl without her consent.

“He unlawfully penetrated sexually the vagina of a 16-year-old girl with his penis.

The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
