Stakeholders in Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State have praised the outgoing council chairman, Mr Olusegun Onilude, for his dedication to the town’s development.
At a valedictory event and the inauguration of the new Badagry Town Hall on Thursday, residents and community leaders highlighted Onilude’s achievements, especially in infrastructure improvements.
Onilude, first elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2021, was commended for his years of service and lasting contributions to the community.
Mr Yahaya Idris, President, Badagry Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BACCIMA), told NAN that the chairman had fulfilled most of his campaign promises.
According to him, Onilude has uplifted the infrastructure development of the town.
“As the President of BACCIMA, I have visited many local government in Lagos and I can tell you that our chairman has done more than any of them in term of infrastructure development.
“My prayer is that the incoming chairman should emulate Onilude so that we will become the pride of Badagry division,” he said.
Mr Kamarudeen Ajape, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Badagry, praised the outgoing chairman for his efforts in completing infrastructural projects like road construction, building of schools and healthcare facilities, and other community development initiatives.
“To a large extent, the chairman has clearly covered most of the areas he promised during his campaign,” he said.
Also, Mr Biodun Hundeyin, retired Deputy Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, scored the outgoing administration high in ensuring youths get good education.
Alhaji Akeem Giwanson, the Chairman of Muslims Community in Badagry, thanked Onilude for the reconstruction of Cinema/Dansu Road.
Meanwhile, a tourism expert, Mr James Aina, said the chairman had not done well in tourism development during his administration.
He urged his successor to promote tourism development in the town.
In his remarks, Onilude thanked the residents for the confidence they had in his leadership.
He said: “It was the driving force behind every decision, every project, and every initiative undertaken during my tenure.
“My political journey began with an aspiration that seemed almost impossible at the time.
“Initially, I harboured dreams of representing our constituency in the House of Representatives, but destiny had other plans.
“When I finally decided to join the race for chairmanship, I was blessed to have distinguished leaders who used their considerable goodwill and influence to promote my candidacy among the political elite of Lagos State.
“I am equally grateful to the All Progressives Congress in Badagry for providing me with the platform to serve our great local government area.
“Looking back, I thank God for the grace he has bestowed on me.”
