Senator Mukhail Abiru (APC, Lagos East) has called on the incoming administration in Ikorodu Local Government Area to build on the legacy of the outgoing leadership and deepen grassroots development.
He made the call on Friday during the inauguration of the Ikorodu Local Government Legislative Chamber and several other projects.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the projects include six newly completed roads, a council chapel, a refurbished customary court, and a rehabilitated secretariat building.
“The incoming administration has seen the selfless service of the outgoing leadership.
“Some would have done these at the beginning of or midway into their administrations to see the benefit, but this administration decided to build these at the tail end,” he said.
Abiru emphasised the need for the incoming administration to properly maintain the structures.
The lawmaker commended the outgoing chairman of the local government for commitment to the growth of the council area and ensuring dividends of democracy.
In his remarks, Mr Sanai Agunbiade, a former Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, commended the outgoing council chairman for his administration’s positive impact on the lives of Ikorodu residents.
Agunbiade remarked that the lagislative chamber would provide a conducive environment for councillors to make laws.
Mrs Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Vice-Chairman of the council, thanked councillors and staff of the local government for support.
Earlier, Mr Adebola Adebowale, Leader of the council’s legislative house, expressed gratitude to the outgoing chairman for good leadership.
He said that the legislative chamber would not only serve as a place to make laws but also serve as a place for discussions with Ikorodu residents on bills.
Responding, the outgoing Chairman, Mr Wasiu Adesina, expressed gratitude to APC for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Ikorodu council chairman.
He said that Ikorodu had witnessed visible progress across several areas – education, infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, youth empowerment and market development.
He said that construction of the legislative chamber, with 19 offices, started 12 months ago.
Adesina urged the incoming administration to bring more dividends of democracy to Ikorodu people.
“It is imperative to render service to mankind, and I promise to continue to assist the community,” he said.
Among dignitaries present at the inauguration is Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
