Police arrest two over attack on security agents in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to a recent attack on police and military personnel in Enugwu-Agu, Oba-Ofemili, located in Awka North Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday in Awka. He said the assault led to the torching of a military operational vehicle.

According to Ikenga, the suspects were apprehended on May 2 following thorough investigations carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu.

He said the suspects both males aged 35 and 32 respectively have confessed their involvement in the crime and provided useful information on other persons involved in the act.

”The disturbing incident occurred on April 13, where some armed individuals unprovoked attacked the security operatives and some stakeholders of the community,” he said.

The police spokesperson quoted the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Ikioye Orutugu as saying that the attack on the security personnel was a grave and deliberate act to test the will of the security agencies and an attack on the soul of a Nation.

Orutugu also commended the act of gallantry and professionalism of the security operatives in managing the situation as no loss of life was recorded.

He charged the operatives to expand the scope of their investigation for the possible arrest of other fleeing suspects.

He also stressed the need for collective action to protect those who safeguard the nation.
