The Kogi State Government has inaugurated a Task Force Committee on Primary Health Care Services to support the effective delivery of public health programs across the state.
Speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday in Lokoja, Deputy Governor Joel Salifu emphasized the importance of collaboration among committee members, urging them to work in unity to build a healthier and more resilient Kogi.
He said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for residents, noting that health is not just a social service, but a key driver of the state’s overall development.
“By strengthening our primary healthcare system, we can improve health outcomes, reduce mortality rates and enhance the overall quality of life for our people,” he said.
According to the deputy governor, the task force will play a critical role in coordinating and overseeing various primary healthcare activities which includes, immunisation, maternal and child health, disease prevention and control and health promotion.
He assured members of the committee of the commitment of the state to making a meaningful impact.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Adams Abdulazeez said the task force will provide a platform for inter-sectoral coordination and collaboration, ensuring that directives from relevant authorities are translated into real improvements in PHC services at the state level.
According to him, similar inter-sectoral coordination committees will be established at the local government level to ensure effective implementation of PHC programmes.
Earlier, the Director, Kogi Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Musa Muazu, expressed gratitude to Gov. Ahmed Ododo for his leadership and commitment to the cause.
He urged members of the committee to make significant impact on the health and well-being of Kogi residents.
On his part, the Kogi Coordinator of World Health Organisation, Mr Sani Ibrahim, commended the state government for demonstrating the political will, strategic vision and commitment to health sector transformation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that launch of the taskforce is the state government’s commitment to ensuring that every individual in the state has access to quality PHC services.
