Festivals promote social connection, preserve our cultural heritage, promote artistic expression, stand in as platform for artistes to reach wider audiences , allow deeper connection and understanding of one’s roots, history and values.
Festivals are not just cultural extravaganzas – they are economic drivers. They attract tourists, create jobs, and boost local economies. Small businesses, artisans, and vendors thrive during festivals as people spend on food, clothing, decorations, and entertainment
During the just concluded *National Sport Festival* held in Ogun State the world witnessed *the communal spirit and therapeutic effect the popular Ogun State Anthem evoked when popular Folk musician ASA ( Bukola Elemide) sang the State Anthem* at the just concluded Festival .
*Ise Ya* the celebrated Wake Up Call to all Ogun State indigenes was composed in *1976* by a man known as *Dayo Dedeke*.
Also at the *Calabar Festival* that holds yearly in Cross River one could see how the *Calas Vegas Band* led by Chief Edem Duke unleashed vibrance, poise and verve which helped to display the rich cultural heritage, invoicing finesse, trends and cultural values of their dear state*.*
In Ibadan, Oyo State *Egungun Festival* featured music by variety of performers, including traditional musicians and modern artists.
While the festival is primarily known for its vibrant displays of masquerades, it also incorporates music to enhance the festivities. Some notable musicians and performers seen at the festival include *Apeke Ajobata, Ayo Ewebiyi, and Modinat Ashabi Barrytide*.
Additionally, the festival witnessed the Oyo State government honoring *Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister* a fuji music icon.
In Ilorin *Durbar Festival** celebrated Nigeria’s rich heritage through a spectacular display of *horse processions, traditional music, and vibrant artistry.*
The *Lagos Carnival* also known as Fanti Carnival is a vibrant cultural festival which reaffirms the role of heritage in shaping a confident, creative, and united Lagos.
Watching the Parade from *Campos, Lafiaji, Okoo-Faaji, Isale – Eko , Okepopo, Olowogbowo and Epetedo* every part with their own kind of music reflecting a legacy that must be preserved and elevated.
*Bolojo Festival* on the other hand is not just a festival but a brand of music. *Bolojo music originated from Yewaland and it was made popular by Chief Tunde Elegbede popularly known as King Jossy Friday.* Bolojo music is usually sang during the festival to correct the ills of the society and condemn the wrongs perpetrated by people, even in high places.
Musicians can take advantage of the divergent opportunities provided by many of these festivals.
