Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr Udeme Otong, has reaffirmed the assembly’s commitment to enacting laws that directly improve the lives of the people.
Speaking at a press conference in Uyo on Wednesday to mark the assembly’s second anniversary, Otong said the house received 23 bills over the past two years and successfully passed 11 into law.
He highlighted the anti-discrimination law protecting persons with disabilities as one of the assembly’s most significant legislative achievements during the period.
“During the the first session, 88 motions were presented to the house while 46 motions were presented in the second session.
“The assembly thoroughly deliberated on these motions and forwarded well thought-out resolutions to the governor for further actions,” he said.
Otong said that the 8th assembly had demonstrated high level legislative activism and productivity in the past two years.
“This underscores our dedication to addressing critical issues affecting the government and people of the state.
“As we continue this legislative journey, the accomplishments of the second session clearly set a promising precedent for future sessions.
“Our commitment to passing impactful legislations and addressing the pressing needs of our people demonstrates our dedication to the wellbeing of Akwa Ibom people,” he said.
Otong expressed the commitment of the house to making significant contributions towards the development of the state in the collective interest of Akwa Ibom
