There are indications that Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State will move with his mentor  Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso if the latter defects to the All Progressives Congress.

Kwakwanso, who is the leader of their New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), is being speculated to be on his way to the APC.

He is believed to have some understanding with President Bola Tinubu.

Some political observers had, however, wondered if Yusuf would migrate with him.

The latter, has however, declared he would continue to follow the political path laid by the politician whom some would call his godfather.

Speaking on Sunday, May 4, at the Kano Government House while addressing 484 local government councillors from the state’s 44 LGAs, Yusuf said, “We will continue to follow the path of our leader. Wherever he goes politically, we will follow. He is our leader and we are proud of him.”

His statement comes amid increasing defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), fuelling speculation that some governors may soon switch allegiances. Yusuf’s remarks were seen as a firm reaffirmation of loyalty at a time when party alignments are under pressure.

The governor also urged councillors to strengthen grassroots engagement and serve as a crucial link between the government and their communities.

“You are the eyes and ears of government at the grassroots,” Yusuf was quoted as saying by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. “Go back to your wards, listen to the people, and present their most urgent needs. Once you do that, we will act.”

Only about a week ago, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, led other members of the Peoples Democratic Party into the APC.
