In a way that may remind stakeholders about the campaign song of the late MKO Abiola, uncrowned winner of the June 12 1993 presidential election, the Group Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, on Saturday declared his intention to contest the Aug. 8, 2026 Osun governorship election.
A popular verse from the song is ‘On the march again o…’
Ogunbiyi had an intensive and remarkable race three years ago before Governor Ademola Adeleke eventually carried the day.
Ogunbiyi made the declaration in his hometown, Ile-Ogbo, Aiyedire local government Area of the state.
He said that he would be contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogunbiyi said that his intention to contest was borne out of the desire to restructure and reposition every sector of the economy in the state.
According to him, every sector of the economy of Osun is in bad shape, so the residents in Iwo Federal Constituency and the entire state have given me the go ahead to contest.
“I have made due consultations with stakeholders and I have been given the way to contest for the primaries.
“I believe I will win the primaries as well as the election, and that is why I need the support of everyone”, he said.
Ogunbiyi, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, said every other aspirant contesting under the APC platform were in competition, but expressed optimism that he would emerge victorious.
According to him, the outcome of the primaries will not tear the party apart, but strengthen it for a collective goal, which is to win the election.
“Everyone will be carried along in the train to success, I am sure that my victory is guaranteed,” he said.
