Members of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Law Class of 2011 have urged the police to probe the death of their former classmate and colleague, Mr Ifeanyi Iloakasia.
Iloakasia was allegedly murdered on May 15, at Egbebelu village, Nanka, Orumba North, of Anambra state.
Their demand is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by their chairman, Mr Chinedu Obasi.
Obassi urged Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to arrest and prosecute those behind the murder.
He, therefore, urged the police authorities to intensify their effort and expand on the ongoing investigation.
“The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Law Class of 2011 is outraged and devastated by the coldblooded death of our beloved classmate and colleague, Barrister Ifeanyi Rolex Iloakasia.
“Iloakasia was a brilliant legal practitioner, devoted family man and community leader.
“He was said to have concluded a court appearance at the High Court of Anambra State, sitting in Ekwulobia, Aquata LGA.
“He was allegedly ambushed at Egbebelu village, Nanka in Orumba North LGA, where he and his client were shot and killed by assailants.
“This horrific murder is not only a personal loss but a blatant assault on the legal profession and the very foundation of justice in Nigeria,” Obasi said.
He said the lawyer’s assassinated was disgraceful, barbaric and demanded immediate and unrelenting national response.
“We do not know the motive of the assailants, we demand justice-swift, complete, and uncompromising.
“We call on the Inspector -General of Police and all relevant security agencies to intensify and expand on the efforts of the Anambra State Police Command
“We condole ourselves as his friends and colleagues, while our deepest sympathies and prayers are with his wife, children, and extended family.
“The NAU Law Class of 2011 stands united in grief, righteous anger, and unwavering call for justice.” Obasi said.
The spokesperson of Police Command in Anambra, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, had confirmed the killing in a statement.
He said Iloakasia and his client were shot dead at about 11.30 am that day.
He said the lawyer had earlier secured the bail of an accused person in a pending murder case at High Court II at Ekwulobia before they were double-crossed by the assailants.
The police spokesperson said one other person, who was severely injured during the attack, was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
